This manual is the reference text used for the FHWA NHI course No. 132031 on Subsurface Investigations. Material covered includes project initiation, drilling and sampling of soil and rock, boring log preparation, in-situ testing, groundwater investigations, laboratory testing for soils and rocks, interpretation of soil and rock properties, geotechnical reports, and contracting of geotechnical subsurface exploration.
